Social perspective:
In terms of the rhetorical
perspective, the article is clearly an argumentative non-fictional essay. There
is no direct reference to the author’s personal life, so the essay adopted an
impersonal form. The author proves the point reflected in her article using rhetorical
questions and logical evidences. Conversely the language adopted is simple
without using any fancy words since the article targets all the people, young
or old because what happened with Malala can happen with any of us. In
addition, in order to make Malala’s experience vivid, she used the description
and the narration modes. These modes help in providing sense impression on how
cruel politics can turn to satisfy their needs. The author’s style can be
described as less formal since it adopted varied
rhythms and lost the structure of everyday speech just as reflected in the
following quote:
The social perspective portrayed in
the text reveals a conflict in promoting social equality, education, and peace. Moreover, such social issues are echoed throughout
(Brand Malala: Western Exploitation of a School Girl). The unique perspective of the social issues
happening in our world today, functions to reflect the effects of the
corruption of war on society. The blog brilliantly illustrates the harsh
realities where individuals in a society are victims of exploitation,
manipulation, and hypocrisy. For
example, the West, including Britain and their allies, has exploited Malala’s
case. The intentional shooting of Malala in the head propelled a good image
about the West in the media. It was argued that they saved a girl from the disastrous
East. This comes off as hypocrisy from a country that miserably failed to
establish gender equality in its own central society.
This incident also acted as a
justification for the horror they have imposed within the region. The author
articulates that such acts are a sheer exploitation to serve the political
goals commanded by tyrants. The author, Carol Anne Grayson, is trying to comment
on a social issue she experienced and witnessed in the past. On the other hand,
the social issue presented by the author is related to our present time since
it has been reoccurring for decades and Malala’s case can still occur but in
different names like “Rigoberta Mencha’s story”.
Emotional perspective:
In terms of the emotional aspect, the author revealed a
combination of powerful sensations throughout her text, to represent this
explosive conflict. Moreover, she argued that, Malala the beautiful brave child
and the face of resistance for women inequality, played a vital role in raising
a conflicting power of emotions to lie a base of an argument of innocence vs.
power. Through the following quote “Lets hope Malala’s story will not be used
to keep occupation going a little longer” (Grayson, 594) , one can realize the author’s
sarcastic tone toward politicians, who are using their power to exploit the
innocence of this girl. The use of sarcasm in this sentence was used to
establish a strong opinion and to show anger about the opposing point of
view. In addition, throughout the blog,
the reader comprehends the continuous use of rhetorical questions, based on the
writer’s angry, and infuriated tone. The following quotes also serve as to help
the reader come to the realization that the aggressive and melancholic tone
that helped Malala develop her argument: “how many people can name the other girls
injured when Malala was shot? What quality of care and support did they
receive? Are they represented by PR companies?” One could simply say that the
West is trying to exploit Malala as a masquerade to hide their oppression in that
area.
Rhetorical perspective:
“Safety is pushed aside for “brand Malala”. There is Malala
the book, Malala the film, Malala the award nominee, Malala the portrait, with
the school girl being skillfully marketed by Edelman, the world’s biggest PR
Company” (Grayson, 596) as shown in the reflected quote the language moves forward unevenly,
the sentences used are neither too long nor short so the reader could grasp
completely the argument presented.
Notice how the author keeps on repeating the name “Malala” in order to
emphasize on how they are using Malala as a marketing strategy.
logical perspective:
The logical
perspective interpreted from the clearly states a combination of issues in
which it does not allow controversy. Exploitation,
manipulation, and hypocrisy are issues that cluster around a single fact: it
must end, now! The author clearly argued
that Malala is used as a tool of distraction in order to deviate other women
from demanding their rights against an exploitative government. On the other
hand, the author was able to prove her argument of hypocrisy and exploitation
providing valid reasoning and past experiences to cast her article into a pool
of deductive reasoning. Moreover, she mentioned Rigoberta’s story to prove that
such cases are always subject to political agenda. “Like Malala she was thrust into
the limelight, pressurised by others”(Grayson, 596) . Therefore, she concluded that
Malala’s intentions and all others like her are pure as gold and the social
injustice must be obliterated in order to perceive our rights like education
peacefully.
Ethical perspective:
Finally, the ethical perspective
presented in the article adopts a moral position in which men are accountable
for the gender inequality. Furthermore, women are being oppressed on daily
bases whether mentally or physically or both. Their rights are being marketed
and exploited to proceed in an unethical political path. In other words, the
author finally concluded that in any case women are being exploited, if not
they are suppressed by a patriarchal society.
