The confusion between goodness and niceness leads to big problems on the "oppression" scale. On her blog "Social Justice League" Rachael writes her opinion on the reblogs of a post on Tumblr by the user "iamateenagefeminist".
She proceeds to explain that oppression masks itself with niceness many times. Oppressors use niceness to enslave the oppressed. Also, being nice doesn't mean a thing, since bad people earn your trust by being nice to you. Another issue, she clarifies that social justice isn't about being nice, but about removing the privileges of the advantaged and giving just rights to marginalised societies. This confusion also gives the oppressors more power over the oppressed, she writes. In her last paragraph, she states that oppression is not about hurting feelings, but about the rights they take from you for belonging to a certain society.
Finally, she concludes that just and polite conduct have no relation whatsoever, and ends her text with: "Social justice […] is about taking back the rights and opportunities denied to us by law or by a social and cultural norms".
Check moodle for grade. The main idea can be worded more clearly. Also dont quote. Tumblr is too specific an idea. Do nice people earn your trust or shroud their meaning. DONT QUOTE.
