In this text Grayson highlights the influence that media and governments have over social facts presented to
the public. In fact they twist stories,
misleading the public and taking advantage of a schoolgirl’s experience (Malala). This sociological perspective adopted by
Grayson shocks the reader.
Concerning the emotional perspective,
the author is disappointed and annoyed by the image granted to Malala. She
disapproves with the vast attention that Malala is receiving (compared to other
injured women around the world) especially from Gordon Brown who holds positions
against women: “He is known as a misogynist by his former work colleagues”
(P05.L05-06). Grayson is disgusted by this attention that is tending to cover
more important issues.
Regarding the rhetorical
perspective, this text is argumentative written in an impersonal way. Grayson
is mostly objective and is trying to deal the issue professionally. She uses a
lot of comparison to portray the situation: “…YET one young lady is flown in to
the UK and provided with the best possible care”(P07.L06-07). In addition, she
denotes the similarity of the situation between Roberta Menchu and Malala who
were both lead to what they represent now. Grayson employs a rapid rhythm:”
There is Malala the book, Malala the film, Malala the award nominee, Malala the
portrait” in order to emphasis the marketing of “Malala the brand”.
As for the logical perspective,
Grayson is debating whether the image of Malala is helping the cause of women
or it is a wall hiding certain realities (like the inefficiency of the
political power ). The author used an inductive reasoning; in fact she started
by Malala’s story to conclude about gender inequality (present not only in
Pakistan but also the UK) and wrongdoings of governments.
Finally, the ethical
perspective is illustrated by the position of Grayson who thinks that what is
happening is wrong. She recalls about the responsibility of society specially
men in this situation. The controversy lying around Malala demeans her credibility.
This perspective is used to show the values and point out the issues around
this subject (social injustice and favoritism).
Social: You use very vague language. Try adding an example.
ReplyDeleteEmotional: (Grayson Page number). Yours is wrong. Plus there is so much to say, your analysis is a little weak. Justify better.
Rhetorical: good analysis, no justification.
Good ethical perspective.
Logical: again why do the conclusion you draw about the text matter? This is justification.
